Brands lease 31,000 square feet at Industry City, adding to the Design District

Design and construction brands have recently signed leases for more than 31,000 square feet of retail space in New York City’s Industry City.
Modern furniture brand West Elm is relocating its outlet store from Building 4 to Building 2 to double its footprint on the campus. The new lease has 10-year terms for a 17,510-square-foot space. Asking rent was $45 per square foot, according to the Commercial Observer.
In the campus’ Design District, kitchen and bath supplier Kohler and construction equipment company Hilti have signed new leases, joining other design retailers in the district including Porcelanosa, Design Within Reach Outlet, RH Outlet, Shakuff Lighting, ABC Carpet & Home Outlet, IC Store by WantedDesign, vintage furniture and artifacts retailer CityFoundry and block textile brand Soil to Studio, among others.
Architecture and design studios, including Ishka Designs and Athena Calderone (Eyeswoon), also have presences on the campus.
In total, Sunset Park’s Industry City has more than 125,000 square feet of design retailers along the Second Avenue corridor. Overall, the mixed-use complex has 6 million square feet of office and retail space.
Industry City’s Jim Somoza and Chase Welles and Taylor Onosko of SCG Retail represented the landlord — Belvedere Capital, Jamestown and Angelo Gordon & Co. — in the deals. Ariel Schuster of Newmark represented West Elm. Mitzi Flexer and Steven Taylor of Cushman & Wakefield represented Hilti. Jacqueline Klingerand Ian Riceof SCG Retail represented Kohler.
